My jewelry and sculpture are three-dimensional sketches from the depths of our collective unconscious. Through occasionally abstract linear forms, sometimes figurative or organic, I work to solidify subjective relationships like those between inner/outer self, man/nature, and reality/spirituality. I create objects that employ both universal symbolism and personal abstract symbolism, using materials that suit the functionality of the object, as in jewelry, as well as materials chosen for their perceived or metaphysical value. I frequently reference the handcrafted objects and vessels used for sacred ceremonies since the time humans began working with their hands to create what didn't exist before in order to fill voids in their spiritual lives. I feel that this is the role of artists and jewelers; we are modern shamans.
Fertility of Intent, Copper, Bronze. Hollow Formed, Fabricated. 8 x 4 x 5. 2010
A vessel is a container, carrier, womb, void, shell, hollow, static, and complete. Embellishments, crevices, and emerging pregnant pods lend this vessel a suggestion of its own life cycle, and as it fulfills its ceremonial purpose, modern shamans are reminded of the infinite fertility of cognition. Every pregnant idea or moment gives birth to another.
